A Lesson in Creative Pressure!
Personal Reflections and a Surprising Lesson from "Same as Ever"
First things first, a big shout-out to all my Indian friends – hope your Diwali was filled with light, joy, and lots of sweets! 🎉
This week, I'm doing something a bit different in the newsletter.
No links, no external resources, just some reflections and a fascinating tidbit from a book I've been engrossed in.
I've been reading Morgan Housel's "Same as Ever," and it's like opening a box full of intriguing and thought-provoking ideas. Among these, one particular concept really grabbed my attention. It's about how stress and the urgency of situations can actually spark some incredible creativity.
Have you ever felt like on those super chill, relaxed days, you end up doing... well, not a whole lot?
Morgan challenges this comfortable state of mind.
He suggests that it's in those moments when we're really feeling the pressure, up against tight deadlines and challenges, that our minds really kick into high gear, sparking some of our most creative and innovative ideas.
To give this some context, he uses historical examples. In times of war or crisis, where stress levels are sky-high, people have had to toss out the rulebook and think on their feet. This kind of intense pressure has been the birthplace of some of the world's most groundbreaking inventions and strategies.
But it's not just about the big events in history. This principle is something we can see in our day-to-day life as well.
Ever had a deadline looming over you and somehow you managed to pull off your best work at the last minute?
Or when an unexpected challenge at work led to a brainstorming session full of brilliant, out-of-the-box solutions?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we should all start seeking out stress or hoping for tough times. But it's quite an eye-opener to think that these challenging moments can actually push us into our most creative and resourceful states.
It's about seeing those tough times as opportunities – chances to think differently and possibly create something amazing.
So, next time you find yourself in a bit of a tight spot, maybe pause for a second and think, "What incredible solution could I come up with right now?" It's all about turning a little chaos into a moment of brilliance.
Can't wait to hear if you've had any similar experiences! Ever had a burst of creativity when under pressure?
Enjoy your Sunday!
